sometimes it’s like…
hello,
hello,
hello,
how low…
I just came back from a very pleasant bike ride (thanks Maga for staying with Diego today and every weekend and making my hobby possible!) and decided to share the route in mapmyride.com
So here’s the link to that specific ride and, from there, you can go to my profile to see other rides that I like and I consider worth posting on that site. If you are not familiar with mapmyride.com (and mapmyrun.com) check it out. And don’t forget to see the elevation profile which really gives you an idea of the type of ride.

One of the nicest things about riding is that you make "friends" that you may or may not see ever again. Today I met a guy that likes to ride the East county rides here in San Diego and was telling me about the devastation you see when you ride through Poway and the Lake Hodges area -the areas most impacted by the wildfires in San Diego include some of the best rides and are very popular for cyclists here. According to him, you can see how entire neighborhoods burned down. I’ve been planning to ride to Elfin Forest or Honey Springs on Thanksgiving day so I guess I will get to see some of that destruction. I’m not really looking forward to that but I’m looking forward to being on those roads.
This cycling friend has a three year old son and a five year old daughter and we talked about how much we appreciate our partners making the weekend rides possible, group rides vs. solo rides, running vs. cycling, our impossibility to swim in San Diego’s water, how to teach a kid to ride with no training wheels, good and safe rides for the whole family, cycling accidents, and a bunch of other things as we rolled together for about 15 miles. Then we split at an intersection. I went straight to get to downtown Rancho Santa Fe and he made a right to get to Poway. May never see him again but we had a really good time pedaling and chatting….
Here’s the first thought: It’s always difficult for me to write "thought" in English and I always have to run the spell check. Maybe if I start writing a lot of thoughts and actually typing the word "thought" as I do it, then I will internalize the correct spelling. I never thought I would actually be uncomfortable about the fact that I will have to spell check this text before posting (I’m using the word "thought" too much…).
Some thoughts will actually be pensamientos. In other words, sometimes I will be writing in Spanish. Maybe I will write in Spanish more often than in English. I don’t know. But here’s one of the main reasons to write in English: my keyboard is designed for English. Spanish speakers will notice that the word "Rincon" in the title of this blog should have an accent on the "o." I actually tried to put it in but it was giving me a random character once the title was published. ASCII codes don’t seem to be as universally accepted as when the universe was much smaller (i.e., when there was only a handful of software companies out there and few graphical interfaces).
Let’s see how this goes…
